Global Media Law or Ethics

 Global Media Law or Ethics

In the media age of global journalism a set of principles and values is taken to revamp a once narrow-minded practice of news media to better serve the public. The use of technology has become a major tool in news coverage through text, video and images of different areas of the world with efficient speed and editorial control. Most importantly, it also allows news outlets to spread information to a worldwide audience.

In spite of these global trends, many codes of ethics have specific standards for news organizations and associations in certain countries, including constructed declarations of principle. Though international organizations of journalists exist, sufficient global journalism ethics has yet to be constructed.

THE GLOBAL MEDIA DEBATE

The concept of global media ethics comes from an attempt to change the global media structure by eliminating inequalities in media technology. This attempt to change the media system has been questionable as some people believe the attempt is being pursued by a plan to take over the media by restraining free press.

The goal of establishing a set of principles and guidelines for unbiased and liable sources of information globally is still in play. In fact, the attempt to reshape the global media has grown much larger than its attempts to establish global media ethics.

WHY A GLOBAL ETHICS

There are two reasons why global ethics are important. First, they are practical. Without global ethics the new rising issues in global journalism cannot be successfully addressed. Secondly, it’s ethical. The ruse of new global currencies brings about global impact and its reaches.

News media today inhabit a globalized pluralistic society where the effect of reports may have a far out impact that is either good or bad.

News reports through satellite television and online can reach a wide audience all over the globe. This could influence the retaliation of the government, military, certain types of agencies and ethnic groups. For a responsible ethic in global affairs worldwide, the news media should band together a multitude of religious, cultural traditions, and ethnic groups.

Another responsibility is reporting issues and events in such a way that shines back to this global vision; to execute a journalistic approach that will serve different audiences and help them to better understand each other. The reports must be accurate, equitable and varied to be judged from an international viewpoint. A narrow-minded and biased reporting may cause damage to a global, closely linked world. A loyal, illiberal news media could erupt populations in war. Furthermore, a global perspective is needed in journalism to ensure that the public understands the unsettling global issues of poverty, degradation, inequality in technology and political instability.

Global ethics journalism can either be looked upon as an extension of journalistic ethics in regards to the public as being the world’s people, and to include ethical standards of fairness, balance and independence in an international approach.
